Domaine des Notes Bleues Savagnin Ouille La Pierre 2023Pale gold in the glass, this is Savagnin in its ouill, or topped up, style, meaning the oxidative character of the Jura's most idiosyncratic white grape is kept firmly in check, allowing the fruit and spice to take centre stage. From a tiny plot of black and iridescent marl soils between the villages of Buvilly and Grozon, with a favourable east and southeast exposure, the terroir lends the wine a precision and minerality that underpins everything.

The book has a scathing view of nobility and the upper class, with the regular people just a part of the scenery, so an allegory that has aged well and applies to modern times. I think it's an essential read to anyone who enjoys literature, as it can be argued that it's the genesis of many themes in modern stories.
